Float Over Masai Mara

Hot Air Ballon Safari

Float Over Masai Mara

Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve is the ultimate ballooning destination.

You wake up at dawn and fly over the Masai Mara as first rays of the sun emerge in the horizon. You will view the animals as you smoothly float over and past them. You drift along one of the rivers and see hippos and crocodiles. It is likely you will spot elephants, leopards in trees, giraffes, antelope, hyenas, lions killing, cheetahs and ostriches from the balloon. Ballooning is one of the best ways to search for the elusive black rhino, a critically endangered and very rare animal to spot in the Mara. There are less than 40 black rhinos in the Mara.

If you visit the Mara between July and October, you will probably see the “Great Migration” of over a million wildebeest, along with large numbers of zebras and gazelles. Viewing from above is the only way you can appreciate how huge the migrating herds really are and this is an experience you should not miss.
All our visitors who took a balloon safari said this phenomenon experience was the highlight of their safari. It is a one hour once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Flight Programme

Custom 4X4 safari vehicles will pick you from your camp or lodge between 4am and 5am and drive you to the launch site, to arrive by 6am. Flames from the hot air balloon burners light the darkness as the crews inflate the balloon. In the meantime, you can enjoy a cup of Kenyan coffee or tea while you watch the crew prepare for take-off.

The pilot will do safety briefing and explain what you can expect during the flight. There are basic toilet facilities available at the launch site.

At 6.30am you board the basket for take-off. The balloon will rise up as the first amber rays of the sun raise at the horizon. The wind gently drifts the balloon deeper in to the reserve. Soar silently with 360 degrees of spectacular views of the sceneries and plains game below with perfect opportunities to take photos. You will have a different perspective of game viewing and the absolute stillness in the float is amazing.

The adventure lasts for one hour and by 7.30am you get back to the ground. You will see the balloon deflating. You will take a short drive to where the tables have been set. Enjoy the delicious bush breakfast with champagne is cooked where you land.
After breakfast at about 9am, you cap the whole experience with a game drive as you are transferred back to your Camp.
